Lifton Community Centre Newsletter No.3 December 2011
Report from the Trustees
We are pleased to announce that the plans for the Community Centre have been submitted to West Devon Borough Council, costing £1,340, thanks to the support of the Parish Council and we should hear the outcome in approximately eight weeks time. You might be interested to know some of the costs involved in this project and that every penny is desperately needed. The architect’s bill for the work carried out so far is £15,654; the geological survey cost £1,434; Topographical report cost £316; Consulting Engineers cost £762 and the Feasibility Report cost £3,000.
Recently, there has been some activity on the site where a willing band of volunteers have cleared the undergrowth, so that it can be used for fundraising events. Thank you so much to all of you that helped.

Lifton's Big Weekend - Review |

There was a lot of fun to be had in Lifton the 12th to the 14th of August at 'Lifton's Big Weekend'. The village was buzzing with activity, young and old turned out for the sports (supported by OCRA) on the Friday evening where all sorts of silly games were played. Competition was fierce in the Tug of War which was won by the team from Lifton Hall Hotel. The fete was opened on Saturday by West Devon Mayor and Lifton resident Mr Donald Horn accompanied by Mrs Mary Horn. The church bells rang, Northlew Silver band played, there were teas in the church hall, stalls and games in Parsonage Court, with more stalls in the car park at marquee at Lifton Hall Hotel and vintage vehicles in the Arundell Arms Hotel car park. Lots to see and do! On Saturday evening there was a very lively barn dance and Wild West evening in the marquee. The church was filled on Sunday morning for a ''Family Songs of Praise'. This was followed by Morris dancing, Cream Teas and a family, Novelty Dog Show in the marquee. Judging by the very happy atmosphere both dogs and owners were enjoying themselves. Team Lifton, who are a community group, would like to thank everyone who supported the weekend in so many ways and as a result they are delighted to be able to give the trustees of the new Lifton Community Centre a cheque for £2,000. The cheque will be presented during the Launceston Male Voice Choir Concert (in aid of the community centre) on Saturday 29th October, 7.30pm at the Victory Hall, Lewdown. Tickets for this are £6 and available from Graham Wood 01566 784778 or Brian Kneebone 01566 784238. |

Lifton Community Centre Newsletter No.2 July 2011
Trustees
The trustees are working with architects on preparing detailed plans for the Community Centre to be used in taking forward a planning application in due course, and we hope to be displaying these during Lifton’s Big Weekend in August. Please come along to the Community Centre Stall and have a look.
A huge thank you to those who have supported the regular events held this year. In addition, the evening with Matt Harvey raised £89, the Red, White and Blue Disco raised £81 and Kevin and Vin Marshall raised £1,354 running the London Marathon.
Team Lifton
Well we seem to have been busy since our last newsletter. We have had several events the Red, White and Blue Disco to celebrate the Royal Wedding was great fun, some people being better at disco dancing than others! Our thanks go to Lifton Hall and everyone else who helped make the evening a success. They even arranged for the sunshine! We are filled with awe and admiration for Lavinia and Kevin Marshall who on a very hot day ran the London Marathon. We really do congratulate them and thank them for the considerable amount of cash they raised for the community hall; our thanks also go to everyone who sponsored them. The evening with Matt Harvey, performance poet had us rolling in the aisles. Following on from the success of this evening we are hoping to bring you more entertainment through Villages in Action. Please support the coffee mornings, even if you only pop in for 10 minutes. We are planning to have a book exchange at future coffee mornings.
